Guest speaker: Dr. Glenn Christensen
Dr. Glenn Christensen, a marketing professor spoke to our web analytics class today. I enjoyed the insights he provided about marketing. Specifically I enjoyed how he discussed the role of the internet in marketing. He explained that back in 2000 people were predicting that the internet would take over and people would stop going out to stores. These predictions of course were incorrect and Dr. Christensen explained that the reality is that the internet is a piece of the marketing whole, but not the only major component of it. The internet provides a great mechanism for informing consumers about products, comparing products on price, and purchasing products. However, the internet does not allow consumers to touch the products. In addition, consumers still have a need to get out and socialize and consumers will continue to go out and shop at stores.
